This afternoon the children were making their Viking shields. I was so impressed when Mrs Hill brought in this member of Year 4 who carved this circular shield from a square piece of wood. Amazing!
Well done to all the members of Year 4 who performed in assembly this morning. What a great start to the day.
This week in Maths we have been looking at angles. We looked all around us and found angles everywhere.
We found acute angles on the chair and flip chart.
We found an obtuse angle on the boot box.
Then we made our own angles.
Today we visited the War Memorial to remember all of the soldiers who have lost their lives. We then went into the Church where we had a very special service.
‘We shall remember them’.
What an amazing maths lesson. I worked with both classes today to investigate perimeter and use our reasoning skills. We discussed measuring lines to find the perimeter of shapes and how many sides we have to measure.
We gave reasons to back up our ideas for example-
‘On my square I only need to measure one side as all the sides are the same length. Then I add this together four times.’
‘To find the perimeter of a rectangle I only need to measure two sides and then double both of them before adding them’.
We also decided that a ruler will not always be the only tool we can use for measuring.
We even started looking at algebra!
Amazing work. Well done Year 4.
Today in maths we started looking at perimeter. We looked at regular shapes and then began looking at irregular shapes with missing sides. Very proud teacher!
Today we had our first hockey session and learnt about dribbling the ball and safety.
Today we created our own fraction posters and learnt all about the denominator and numerator. We then learnt about equivalent fractions.
